Heralded architect Heather Johnston generated quite the interest when she debuted her Casa 8 project. Utilizing a 90-degree bi-parting Multi-Slide Door, Johnston created a stunning view for the homeowners while providing indoor-outdoor living, even on the second floor. This project is like a piece of poetry thanks to its use of natural light and ocean views on the north and south sides of the property. A giant Series 980 Pivot Door complements the sleek, minimalist styling of the home. First, they had to position the home perfectly on the lot to take advantage of the views of Camelback Mountain. That presented a challenge. “The cul-de-sac cuts into part of the lot. Then you have the views out what might be a side yard,” Nassos says. “So we had to angle the house to capture the views of the mountain and design around the cul-de-sac and all the setbacks that come along with it. It was extremely challenging to come up with a floor plan that worked but embraced what was around it.” This beautiful fixed- and hinged-window combo lets tons of natural San Diego light into the luxurious bathroom.The lovely balcony awaits those who walk through the modern-looking pivot door.A pocketing 90-degree sliding glass door makes the sunny kitchen space even more expansive.
